Parent Involvement

Participation and Requirements

NUAP considers this program to benefit not only the child with autism, but the entire family as well.

Classroom 
​Participation is required!!!!

Participation of one parent is expected 1 hour per week OR 3 hours in one day in the classroom.
  • Let the teachers know ahead of time the hours you will be participating.
  • If this is going to be an issue please discuss with your child’s instructor. 
  • You will have the opportunity to learn the educational and behavioral techniques that work for your child.
  • Friday afternoons are not to be scheduled for classroom hours.
  • 1 work session is required.
  • Siblings are not allowed in the classroom during parent participation.
  • No cell phones while participating.
  • No pictures while participating in the classroom, specifically those that include other students.
  • Teachers are unable to answer questions about other students in the class.
  • Participation will start three weeks after your child starts the program.
  • CHECK IN AT THE FRONT OFFICE BEFORE COMING TO CLASSROOM.

Parent Training
CANCELLED NOW BECAUSE OF COVID.

Held the first Tuesday of every month
  • From 6-7:30, location will be provide
  • Babysitting is provided by the staff free of charge for all students and siblings.
  • All families are required to attend 80% of these meetings.
  • Please share your input on past and upcoming parent trainings

Emergency Kits

​Emergency kit required for each child
  • Kits should be no larger than a gallon size zip lock bag.
  • Kits should contain the following:
    • Picture of family
    • Favorite toy or doll (a comfort item)
    • Change of clothing

Diapers

  • Diapers and Wipes will need to be provided for your child.
  • ​Extra sets of clothes provided for accidents
​Interested in potty training? Let your teacher know to discuss and plan further.

Supply Lists

We strictly rely on parents to bring in all the supplies needed.
  • Messages will be sent home when classroom supplies are needed
  • Please provide enough for 12 students​
Remember this is a free program!!

Field Trips

Field Trips are held once a month
  • Can count as 1 hour of participation a month
  • Students are required to participate in field trips
These are equally important to parents as well as the students.
  • Parent participation is required if you are unable to attend please discuss with your child’s teacher.
